Casey: Ok - this is the last bathroom fixture picture or Karen's going to force me to start a new blog of my own. I saw these electric hot water heaters in two of the places we stayed at and thought they were really cool. We've got these in the U.S. but they use natural gas so it's more difficult to install one (you need a vent tube to the outside). WIth these simple units, if you have a cold water supply and an electrical outlet then you have unlimited hot water. Certainly makes more sense than the expense of keeping a hot water heater tank heated all the time and running a second set of plumbing for hot water. Only disadvantage is the water flow rate is lower than what most people would expect but then it does force water conservation.

In fact, we are considering to put such an unit for the far wing of the house. By the time the warm water reached that faucet in the winter, one could have finished the morning shower already.

Thanks for the plumbing shots. That is the best and worst part of travel - what kind of toilet, if any, will there be and paper?
Any hardware stores around?

We did indeed look for hardware stores. Only place we found was a Chinese-owned shop in Penang where the guys were organizing nuts and bolts into various buckets. By the way, toilet tissue packets only cost 10 cents outside the Malaysian bathrooms - best 10 cents we ever spent.
