Syncretism
This is a shot of the church of Santo Domingo, just one block from where we're staying. The Spaniards built it directly atop the Coricancha, also known as the most important temple in the Incan empire. The walls were once covered in sheets of gold, and the courtyard contained lifesize golden statues. It's the perfect example of syncretism and the merging of two completely different beliefs (Catholicism and animism), though the blending here seems to be more of a power play. (Oh, we're so sorry! We didn't realize your temple was HERE!) Sat outside the Coricancha two nights ago and ate dinner on a park bench. It is truly dazzling at night!

Wish I could have been there to share your dinner and the view. Kiwi would have liked it but only if there were a frisbee there.
