The Incan Cosmos

Went to the Cusco planetarium last night to watch the stars. There was a full moon, which made for an eerie experience, but we managed to catch a glimpse of Jupiter and a close-up of Neil Armstrong's footprints (okay, not really). It was impossibly cold last night. Arrived here in Peru with a bit of an attitude, assuming that my status as a Coloradoan makes me bullet proof to both frigid temps and precipitously high altitudes. There's no way around it - it's cold. Our trip is narrowing down as less than a week remains. I've been wanting to post pictures of Machu Picchu but my thoughts on Peru's "Camp David" require more time and reflection. Besides, every place I visit is measured up against the Florida Everglades - the solitude, the wildlife, even all that water vapor- and all conveniently located in America's backyard. Machu Picchu is like South America's Disneyland, and tourists like me are part of the problem. Trampling atop the hitching post of the sun feels somehow simultaneously sacred and profane. Promises for a more positive post in the days to follow. Ciao, friends.

It sounds like another amazing journey Kiwi! Can't wait to hear more about your experiences there, but really appreciate you sharing your stories through here too! Peru is really a rapturous place, isn't it? Please have a pisco sour on our behalf before departing South America's land of enchantment :)

xoxo
