Caral

In the rain shadow of the Andes sits the pre-ceramic site of Caral, a thirsty and sun filled space where an umbrella is your best friend.Spent 10 hours on a bus to get there and back, passing Lima's breadbasket of potatoes, maize, and beans down in the valleys. Failed to capture a shot of the hen houses that dot the landscape - let's just say that conditions are "cozy" for the chickens and "free range" isn't top on the priority list (no judgment implied). My friend Laura is pictured here with me near one of the Caral monuments. We fly to Chiclayo tomorrow.

Pre-ceramic? So they ate off of paper plates?
