The Last Days of Summer

Well, it's back to the grind this week, as classes begin in just a few days (cue the solitary tear running down the cheek). In one last farewell to a relatively car free summer lifestyle, rode my bike to pick up our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) box, packed with corn, lettuce, onions, squash, beans, carrots, beets, broccoli, and chard (and two chocolate croissants, just for good measure). You'd be amazed at how friendly people are when they see a cyclist riding by with a big red box bungeed to the back racks. Received a couple over the head waves and even a several "howdys" from folks on the golf course; made me wonder if I'd dropped some veggies in the bike's wake. J and V offered to split their farm share with us this year and the variety of plant foods has encouraged some incredible culinary creativity. Unfortunately, Kiwi has zero interest in plant foods.
