It's been a bit of a long day, so I'll just leave my few loyal readers with a couple of photos. Let me say that Sao Paulo is so unlike what I'd anticipated. It is one of the largest cities in the world, yet it has an breezy, unhurried feel to it. Smiles seem to come easy to people despite my attempts to butcher their beautiful language. The street food photo is dedicated to the most daring foodies of all (Jim and Venitha). I've already forgotten both the Portuguese and English words for this bizarre fruit (it's not durian) but the locals were eating it like it was rare Aztec chocolate. The other Fulbrighters are wonderful, both self-deprecating and curious about the world around them despite some having already extensive travel resumes. A few have visited Afghanistan, others have seen Nepal in the 1960s before Kathmandu became a hippie hangout. It's humbling. (Above) Stained glass inside the SP Municipal Market.

That would be jackfruit. Nowhere near as odious as durian - but still worth avoiding. So just how old is the oldest house in Sao Paolo?
