Road Kill
Fought a 28-35 mph headwind for 7 hours. By 5 pm, we collapsed for a late siesta smack dab in the middle of the trail. One of the best naps we've ever had. A wild turkey walked across the trail, didn't know what to make of us. Karen got in her sleeping bag but the temperature in the shade was perfect for me. We're in a decadent motel tonight in Atkinson, NE. Tomorrow we have 38 miles left to get back to the car for a total of 250 for this trip. Nothing compared to the achievements of those who ride across the country - perhaps us someday. We have ALOT of respect for those who have that kind of mental and physical ability. Don't know how we could regularly deal with headwinds and doubt we will always be able to find such a good nap spot. But a trans-America trip remains on our bucket list despite learning what pedaling into strong headwind is like. A lesson in patience, perseverence and pain.
