Las Vegas

Unable to resist the temptation of $99 roundtrip tickets, we flew from Loveland to Las Vegas for Christmas. With no family in town to celebrate, we spent a desanctified Christmas passing the hours in Sin City: Indian buffets, bright lights, and Liberace memorabilia featured prominently into the weekend.

We stayed at the Boardwalk Casino, a 40-year old Coney Island themed hotel right on the strip, built long before the mega-casinos arrived in Vegas. The Boardwalk showcased a giant clown and a faux roller coaster out front. In our book, this provided just enough kitsch to be cool. Word that our hotel would be dismantled in two weeks for a new MGM condo-hotel thrilled us; we’d been served one of the last slices of Boardwalk history. (In truth, we couldn't afford to stay anywhere else).

Here are some photos from the weekend.

Cement bathtub with flower petals. Aaaah..

Karen,
It's nice to see that you and Casey had such a wonderful Christmas. Las Vegas has always been one of those spots that makes me a bit nervous. I am glad to see another side of Wayne's town.

Andy! So good to hear from you. Yes, Vegas made us a bit jittery, too. We realized after this trip that we're just not "Vegas" people. Love, Karen

Count me as a another "not Vegas" person, but that chocolate fountain does look good.

Chocolate fountain is impressive. I wonder if it's real chocolate or some other colored water substance.

I would probably have stayed at this place simply because of the clown. Mayhap Stephen King could write a novel about it.
