Our plans for the 10-day, 99 Mile, Soul-Searching, Too Many Days Without a Shower Canoe Trip of the Everglades Wilderness Waterway have finally taken form. We're calling it Operation Final Freedom and have made some considerable headway on the Master Plan:(1) Drain United frequent flier account for two round-trip Miami tickets.
(2) Purchase Freeplay WeatherBand Radio on e-bay.
(3) Stock up on Dollar Tree broad spectrum sunscreen.
(4) Dust off GPS unit from basement.
(5) Purchase Buzz Off floppy hats from Jax.
(6) Borrow Liquid Land, River of Grass, & Peter Matthiessen triology from library.
(7) Purchase waterproof navigation charts.
(8) Mentally configure canoe to accommodate 30 gallons of drinking H20.
(9) Repeat aloud: only habituated gators are aggressive, while crocs are shy & elusive.
(10) Congratulate selves on being so darn travel-frugal it makes some folks mad.
What's remains:
(1) Get someone to pay two, 30-something bumblers to write story about adventure.
(2) Learn to become one with the mosquito population.
(3) Get through 1 1/2 more months of classes without catching student cooties.
(4) Stop worrying about Kiwi the Wonder Dog.

Final Freedom? Yeah right. This will be our last trip. Uh-huh.
I hear that people have been pulled alive into gator holes, only to wake up and discover their whereabouts. Stay off the beaches - camp on the chickees.
Final Freedom.
Not coming back?
Hot shower, soft warm bed too confining?
Glad you are making your dreams come true. Hope you don't make some 'gators dream come true.
